THE HUNT FOR A NIGHT CREAM/GEL FOR ROSACEA SKIN

Night cream, I am struggling to find a cream/gel that suits my needs. I would like a comforting night cream full of goodness. I have been testing various night creams over time. It is not something that you can try for a week and say yes or no. I feel that you have to give yourself time until the product has finished. That can take up to three months. Unless you have a reaction to something then I would never finish something. I started this post in November 2019. I will finish when I have used up all the night creams in my beauty cupboard or until I have found what I call a holy grail. One which is perfect for me, product, price and packing.

La Roche Posay Toleriane Ultra Nuit

night cream hunt

I was so impressed with the day cream, that I soon added the night cream. However, this was not the same. Enriched with neurosensine, niacinamide, carnosine and vitamin A, plus soothing Thermal Spring Water to help skin improve its natural barrier and instantly soothe irritated skin. Toleriane has been through rigorous dermatological testing to ensure it is suitable for use on even the most sensitive skin. Toleriane is the first skincare range to be given the Seal of Approval by Allergy UK. I found I was using more of this, as this was more liquefied, more runny. This did not irritate my skin, but I am not sure if I would purchase again.

Lacura Caviar Illumination Night Cream

night cream hunt

This I am a fan off and am already using my second jar for my neck and decollete. This is a luxurious, rich moisturiser for deep hydration, with caviar extract and Pro-Vitamin B5 to help smooth and repair damaged skin, improve suppleness and reduce signs of ageing. Super ingredients Snow Algae, real caviar and hyaluronic acid team up to supposedly help one look younger and more radiant every day. My sensitive skin loves this and the price point at £6.99 for a 50ml jar is nice. I am not a fan of the packaging, I would pay more for better packaging.

Cerave Facial Lotion PM

night cream
This is a lightweight and silky face cream that provides up to 24 hours of hydration. Helping to strengthen and restore the natural skin barrier to prevent moisture loss, the lotion uses three naturally occurring ceramides and Hyaluronic Acid to soothe any sensitivity and leave skin calm, comfortable and ultra-healthy. This reminded off the La Roche Posay in texture and feeling. Very light and I am not sure of it. It certainly meets my requirements in regards to price and packaging. As I used more of this product in the evening than I did with the AM version. When finished I knew this would be perfect for both my morning and evening moisturiser.

 A Florence Skin Rehab Light/Rich

night cream

I had four samples of these. I used the light for the morning and the rich version for the evening. This light version is a deeply soothing and repairing moisturiser for oily and combination sensitised skin barrier. The rich version is an intensely soothing, deeply repairing and nourishing face cream for very dry and sensitised skin barrier. These samples are a powerful solution for redness and irritation caused by jet-lag/air-travel, harsh weather and cosmetic actives. Enriched with restoring essential Omega 3s and 6s, Beta glucan, 1% Ceramide 1 and 3, 1% Bisabolol, and 0.7% Centella Asiatica this cream encourages fast skin recovery from chronic and traumatic skin conditions and cosmetic procedures. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of either of these products. I did not like the feel of them. Both creams were too rich for me, even the light one.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

night cream

I had a travel size of this. My face and neck loved this. This cream gives intense hydration for anyone with extremely dry or scaly skin. I had no problems with this. A very nice velvety cream that will be repurchased in a full size when the trial is finished. If you have problem skin with rosacea and dryness, I would recommend this brand. The packing and price are right too. This product ticks all my boxes.

Elemis Pro Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream

night cream

This I had various different sizes samples. I tried it first on holiday and loved it. Overnight, it will help to replenish lost moisture, increase oxygen levels and reduce the damage that can be caused by the environment. The only problem, is the price and the packaging. But the product is beautiful and my skin just enjoyed this. This I will try and buy when I get a reduced price.

Elemis Pro Collagen Overnight Matrix

This clinically proven overnight treatment with elemis Smart Drone Technology replenishes the complexion giving smoother-looking skin, with visible bounce-back. Modern day living including stress, sleep deprivation and pollution can impact on the health of the skin. When under pressure, the body releases inner chemical signals, which can impair the skin’s barrier function, decrease the natural production of Hyaluronic Acid and contribute to the breakdown of collagen and cellular ageing. Harnessing a powerful blend of Padina Pavonica, Drone Peptide Technology, Microalgae and Wild Indigo Oligosaccharides, this revolutionary formula works throughout the night to help restore the natural balance to the skin, creating a protective matrix to help seal in hydration. A youthful, firmer feeling, less crumpled appearance is revealed by the morning. I was not a fan of this, it is very expensive and not for me.

Liz Earle Skin Repair Rich Cream

Liz Earle updated their moisturisers. I brought the rich version to try. The facial gel is enriched with a cocktail of borage, sustainable shea butter and avocado oil, quenching the thirst of dry skin that is prone to coarseness to leave a dewy, lit-from-within glow. Echinacea and toning hops create the illusion of a more youthful complexion, while antioxidant-rich Vitamin E creates a powerful barrier against harsh external factors, that could potentially cause further damage. I did not like this at all. It felt that it left a film on my skin and the smell, so floral. I just did not like this at all. I may try the light version, this has different ingredients and if it is part of a deal on qvc. I will not buy it out right to try.

Elemis Superfood Night Cream

This omega rich night cream feeds dry and depleted skin, super-boosting with intense nutrition. A protective prebiotic and concentrated superfoods of barley, quinoa and sweet almond milk nourish the skin whilst you sleep. The skin’s natural eco-system is balanced whilst moisture and lipids in the skin barrier are replenished to leave skin feeling smoother, softer and revitalised. An essential oil blend of lavender, ylang ylang and vetivert help promote feelings of relaxation before sleep. This green cream has a smell that I do not like, so I used this up and will not repurchase.

Hado Labo Tokyo Anti Aging Repair Night Cream

night cream hunt

This I brought on the recommendation of you tuber Nadine Baggott. This has 3 different types of Hyaluronic Acid including Super Hyaluronic Acid. Intensely regenerating multi layer hydration. Contains tetra-peptide-5 and collagen. Perfect for me as fragrance free and suitable for sensitive skin. Not a fan of the open jar product again. I did not like the gel cream experience with this and made my face very tacky for hours after. Gave up and gifted to my mum. This one was not to be.

Liz Earle Superskin Moisturiser For Sensitive Skin

Featuring firming pomegranate flower extract and high levels of pure plant oils including cranberry, rosehip and nutritious British borage to lock in moisture, our rich, restorative blend transforms dry, dull or fatigued skin so it looks and feels incredibly smooth and soft, while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I found this okay but joyless. I just did not enjoy this cream.

Corsx Oil Free Ultra Moisturising Lotion

An oil-free moisturiser that I love. The Oil Free Ultra Moisturising Lotion is a weightless, hydrating lotion that sinks into my skin in seconds to help calm, heal and nourish skin. Recommended for sensitive, oily or acne-prone skin, this watery moisturizer is enriched with all-natural birch sap to improve hydration levels in skin while maintaining oil and water balance to prevent excess sebum production and further breakouts. The result is calmer, soother skin with an improved texture and tone. My rosacea skin in the summer loved this. It felt so calming and cool on the face. This is a repurchase for me, it is just a shame that it has to come from South Korea

Sunday Riley Ice Ceramide Moisturising Cream

This deeply moisturising formula comes to the rescue of depleted, irritated skin with a wave of strengthening ingredients. The dual-action moisturiser empowers your skin’s resilience to environmental stressors as it pulls in hydration for a baby-soft, supple finish. It’s formulated with a replenishing dose of ceramides (lipids created naturally by the skin to form your natural moisture barrier) to relieve tight and itchy skin. Perfect for dry and dehydrated skin types, it’s also infused with vitamin F (the building blocks of ceramides) to maintain lipid levels and strengthen your skin’s natural moisture barrier, while coconut reduces water loss as it hydrates your skin. What’s more, a cocktail of quenching extracts (think: beetroot and red algae) works to prevent dehydration for visibly smooth, deeply moisturised skin. This interested me when it was announced. I brought a 8g jar to try. And my skin loved it. Even with the smell, my skin just loved this and the butter like texture just sank into my skin. A few people have said that it was too rich for them. But for me, I just enjoyed this.

Avene Skin Recovery Cream

The ultra calming cream works to soothe sensitive skin. When skin is hypersensitive it needs targeted care. From climatic conditions, to drying cosmetics, to natural sensitivity, skin is often put under stress. The Skin Recovery Cream is specifically designed to bring comfort to troublesome skin, helping to calm irritation and re-balance the hydrolipidic film. Now the product was fine, but the packaging let me down. It was the tube packaging, that I was not a fan off.

Dr Jart+ Ceramidin Cream

Dr Jart+’s Ceramidin Cream delves deep into your dermal layer to deliver intense moisture, while strengthening and protecting your skin. The rich-textured cream is effortlessly absorbed by your skin for immediate hydration. At the heart of the formula is a clever five-ceramide complex that supplements and supports the ceramides that exist in your skin; empowering the protective layer of your skin, these ceramides improve moisture retention and accelerate ceramide production for longer lasting hydration. To soothe and restore the irritation and uncomfortable roughness that comes from a depleted skin barrier, this cream also calls upon bidifida ferment lysate, beetroot and hyaluronic acid to impart added intense moisture. I use this after my tretinoin and my face loves this.

Elf Happy Hydration Cream

Make your skin extra happy and hydrated with this hemp-derived Cannabis sativa face cream. The creamy, rich texture blends easily into the skin to deliver supreme moisture and nourishment. Also infused with other skin-loving ingredients like Vitamin B5, Hyaluronic Acid, and Niacinamide.

Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream

This silky water-gel moisturiser is the perfect defence against the signs of ageing. Think of Protini as a powerful shot of protein powder for your skin, which helps to maintain collagen, encouraging its production and preventing its breakdown. Formulated with a complex of 9 signal peptides, pygmy waterlily stem cell extract, soybean folic acid ferment extract and acetyl glutamine. The airtight container also helps the formula to stay super-fresh.

Repurchases

Most likely a few of these, but it will depend on my face, the price, the season. There is still so much I want to try. I have not found a holy grail that does everything I want it too. But would recommend any of these and see if they are good for you.
