GERMANY, BERLIN, DAY TWO

We both slept well and had decided to do the Big Red Bus Tour, the hop on, hop off one in the morning. But I had also prebooked a visit to the Reichstag Dome. So lucky for us, one of the stops was right outside our hotel.

berlin day two

So we joined on the first bus of the day and went down to the Brandenburg Gate, as I wanted to find the memorial to the murdered Jews Of Europe.

That was amazing and very poignant. We then caught the Hop On, Hop Off bus and got off at the Berlin Wall stop.

Knowing that Checkpoint Charlie was less than 500 metres away. We walked down to find it. What surprised me was how commercialised that it was.

Again, back on the bus then back to our hotel for a little rest.

Reichstag Dome

The roof terrace and dome of the Reichstag Dome can be visited by members of the public, and offer spectacular views of the parliamentary and government district and Berlin’s sights. When I found out about online, I thought it would be nice to visit. Being a parliament, you have to apply with passport details and then wait to hear if you are successful. I got an email acceptance the next day.

We arrived and I had probably picked the wrong day as we went on a Sunday. But what can you do. We had security checks done and then put in a group. When we arrived at the dome.

We picked up our audio guides and started to walk up the dome.

You do see some amazing sights from the dome. And you hear all the history too. And then before you know it, you are at the top.

And then you start the walk back down. It is not too bad. It is a different walk way down. Overall, I think we were there for about an hour to ninety minutes. And I really enjoyed and we were lucky with a clear bright day !

TV Tower Restaurant

The TV Tower was on my wish list when I knew we were going to Berlin. But once I found out that there was a revolving restaurant I knew I wanted to experience that. I did not expect to pay EUR 47 for my window table reservation. But everything costs in Germany as we found out. I can only apologise for the quality of the following photos. You were not allowed to use your camera which surprised me.

We were told our table number and found it ourselves. Before we met our server and ordered our drinks. We both ordered the fillet steak which was EUR 28.50 each. And before you knew it, the food was served.

And this was delicious. I really enjoyed it. I was not a fan of the price but both of us enjoyed our dinner. We then decided to order dessert too. I had seen Lemon Meringue that I really wanted to try.

And again, it was delicous ! And I could not finish it. My husband had Black Forest Gateau and he enjoyed that too.

Park Inn By Raddisson

I picked the hotel as I wanted a central located one in Berlin. This was very easy to find after arriving on the train from Berlin Schoenefeld airport. The hotel is located at Alexanderplatz square. A large shopping area with plenty of places to eat and shop if that is what you want to do !

We arrived early and asked if we could leave out suitcases. They charge everyone EUR 2 per case. Breakfast was EUR 19 per person. Internet was EUR 9.99 per day. I was surprised for the charge for the luggage and the internet. Next time, I will thoroughly check my booking. The room was small, but adequate for our needs.

There was no bathroom, but cubicles a separate shower and toilet which was very small even for me and I am not even 5 feet tall !

I had booked a city view and this was my view. Not bad !

Would I stay here again. Probably not, as I said it was adequate but next time I will check that a hotel room meets our needs and just not assume.
