Dinant is a city in Belgium’s Walloon Region.  We travelled then on our way back from Luxembourg.  It is about an hour and twenty minute drive from Brussels. I was not even aware we were visiting this city until the day of our tour. And what I was not awarewas celebrating a bank holiday we we drove into the city and was waiting in all the traffic.

You can also find the birthplace of saxophone inventor Adolphe Sax’s. Mr Sax’s House has interactive exhibits on the instrument’s development. Where you can also see a crystal saxophone in the grounds.

Dinant is on the banks of the Meuse River and backed by steep cliffs. Perched on an outcrop above town is the centuries old fortified Citadel. It is now a museum with sweeping views. Our guide told us normally people have enough time to go up and visit. But we delayed with all the traffic. So we did not get the chance.

Below it is the Gothic Collegiate Church of Our Lady. I took one look and thought this is my kind of church.

Most of the festivities, take place on the water. We got here to late to experience them but it was still very busy with people enjoying the weather.

There are saxophones all over the city. This one was gifted from Spain and is found on the Charles De Gaulle bridge. He was wounded here during the First World War.

Looking back, it was nice to spend a little time here. But I do remember this being so busy with people, that my inside head was just screaming to get back to Brussels. I did spend a lot of time in the Church just hoping that time would move faster. This visit just came at the wrong time. But that is life !
