WANDERLUST: TURKEY

Another wanderlust country is Turkey. All of my friends have been here and rave about it and return every year. But I just have not got there yet. But then I am not the type of person, who is happy in a resort with children  and just sunbathing. I like to see explore and see some of the country.

We would fly in Instabul and spend a few days here. Hoping to visit The Sultan Ahmed Mosque, Basilica Cistern and just explore this beautiful city.

Then a flight to Pamukkale. This is a town in western Turkey known for the mineral-rich thermal waters flowing down white travertine terraces on a nearby hillside. It neighbours Hierapolis, an ancient Roman spa city founded around 190 B.C. Ruins there include a well-preserved theatre and a necropolis with sarcophagi that stretch for 2 km. The Antique Pool is famous for its submerged Roman columns, the result of an earthquake.

Then a flight to Alanya, to spent some time at the beach and explore Perge-Aspendos.

And also spend spend some time exploring Coppadocia. This place is known for its distinctive “fairy chimneys,” tall, cone-shaped rock formations clustered in Monks Valley, Göreme and elsewhere. Other notables sites include Bronze Age homes carved into valley walls by troglodytes (cave dwellers) and later used as refuges by early Christians. The 100 m deep Ihlara Canyon houses numerous rock-face churches. And you can stay there too which is what I hope to do !

I expect this trip to take between ten and twelve days and we will most likely be doing this independently. I have not found a tour company that offers everything that I would like to see and do in Turkey. So sometimes, you have to book everything yourself. I am looking forward to see what Turkey has to offer ! I just have to avoid the summer period, when I know that it will too hot for me !
