Well this May bank holiday weekend, was a lot of firsts. First time to London City Airport, which I hope to return to. First time flying with British Airways on short-haul travel – the flight to Amsterdam was 45mins and I was impressed that if I can – I will fly short-haul with British Airways again.
First time visiting Amsterdam. When we finally got to Centraal Station, it was torrential rain and we ended up getting at taxi to our hotel. We stayed at Royal Amsterdam Hotel, found on the Rembrandtplein square in the city centre of Amsterdam. Our room was small, compact and I was surprised that they did not provide any complimentary in room drinks. After the reception I had in Morocco – this was lacking !
Now this square was busy day and night and full of places to eat and drink – that could be either a good or bad thing – I will leave that up to you !

The tram stop was opposite the hotel – trams number 4 and 9 stopped. We ended up getting on the wrong one once and ended up at the wrong station. We then took the Metro back to Centraal Station – where we were originally heading. I was surprised by talking to someone on the metro that there is no metro to the airport. We did up end up using various trains, trams, bus and the metro on our short visit.
On our last night we ate at Gauchos on Reguliersbreestraat and had a steak dinner. The meal was lovely but the service was awful and I would not recommended it.
