THIRD QUARTER TV DURING 2020

Television and films I watched during my extended lockdown, being clinically extremely vulnerable to Covid 19. I was not allowed out until the 1st August. I had also cancelled Amazon prime, not watching much on there. I still have Netflix, Viki and Disney +, so not missing out on anything.

Disney +

I was not a fan of the 1st one and no idea why I decided to watch the next one. Maleficent and her goddaughter Aurora begin to question the complex family ties that bind them as they are pulled in different directions by impending nuptials, unexpected allies and dark new forces at play.

Set three years after the events of the first film, the story follows Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven, who embark on a journey beyond their kingdom of Arendelle in order to discover the origin of Elsa’s magical powers and save their kingdom after a mysterious voice calls out to Elsa. I loved Frozen II.

Viki

This streaming service is home for my South Korean shows that I just still enjoy watching. Very few now I watch every week. I just prefer to watch them all in one go.

Lawless Lawyer follows characters Bong Sang-pil and Ha Jae-yi who form the Lawless Law Firm. Sang-pil, a former gangster turned lawyer, seeks to avenge his mother and fight against those with absolute power. He often resorts to using his fists and loopholes in the law to achieve his goals. Ha Jae-yi is a lawyer of high integrity who works with Sang-pil after she is suspended for assaulting a judge. Together they use the law to fight for justice against corrupt judge Cha Moon-sook and her associates.

The Legend Of The Blue Sea was boring for me. The television series centers on the love story of Heo Joon-jae, the son of a rich businessman who becomes a clever con-artist after his parents’ divorce, and a mermaid named Shim Cheong. Focusing on rebirth, fate, and unrequited love, their tale is juxtaposed with the parallel story of their Joseon era incarnations, town head Kim Dam-ryeong and the mermaid Se-hwa.

Team Bulldog Off Duty Investigation I enjoyed. Jin Kang-Ho is an enthusiastic and effective detective. He tries to catch criminals by any means necessary. He also doesn’t get along with other detectives. Kang Moo-Young is an enthusiastic PD of a TV investigative program. The program tries to catch criminals that the police could not. Kang Moo-Young is upright, but she will take risks to reveal the truth. Jin Kang-Ho and Kang Moo-Young unexpectedly meet and they begin to cooperate on unsolved cases. Would love to see a second series of this.

Haunted by the thought that his drunkard father killed another man before also dying on the same day and not paying for his crime, Seo Do Won lives his life trying to secretly repay Han Seo Kyung for his father’s sin while hiding the truth. He is now a detective who overworks to escape his guilt, and she is a prosecutor who is still looking for her father’s killer. One day, Do Won stumbles upon corpses buried in an abandoned, old train station. Labeling it as a serial murder case, Do Won and the police start investigating. However, the case becomes weird when a dead victim turns up alive and Seo Kyung is killed along with the discovery of a new corpse. Realizing that the mysterious train that shows up in the abandoned station is a portal between parallel universes, Do Won travels to the other world to track the serial killer with the help of the other Seo Kyung.

Baek Hee Sung seems like the ideal husband. Working as a craftsman, his hard work allowed his metal-working studio to meet with its fair share of success. Able to provide a good life for his wife and daughter, he’s a good example of what a husband should be. But this perfect façade hides some very dark secrets that even his wife, Cha Ji Won remains unaware of. Unfortunately, secrets have a way of coming out and as a hard-hitting homicide detective, it’s Cha Ji Won’s job to uncover as many of them as she can, in her never-ending quest for the truth. While investigating a particularly cruel case, she finds herself on a dark path that could crumble the very foundations of her happy life. But she is determined to bring this psychopath to justice. Delving deeper into the case, she realizes that he may have been close by all along.

Netflix

This Its Okay Not To Be Okay felt like a fairy tale to me. The drama tells the story of Moon Kang-tae  a community health worker at a psychiatric ward who doesn’t have time for love, and Ko Moon-young, a successful children’s book author who suffers from antisocial personality disorder and has never known love. After meeting one another, the two slowly begin to heal each other’s emotional wounds. I did enjoy this.

Was It Love was a show that just appealed to me. I just enjoyed watch this twice a week a lot. No Ae-Jung is a single mother and works as a producer for a movie company. She has not had a boyfriend in the past 14 years, but 4 men appear in front of her. Oh Dae-O is a mysterious best-selling novel writer. Ryu Jin is a popular actor. Koo Pa-D was once a gangster, but he is now the CEO of Nine Capital financial company. Oh Yeon-Woo is a PE teacher at a school of her daughter.

Save Me tells the story of a family that move from Seoul to Muji-gun, a suburban town, after her father’s business fails. There is a religious cult called Goseonwon that has most of the town in its grasp; it has a large number of followers and disguises itself as a peaceful church but dark secrets, torture, violence, and murder lurk underneath. Sang-mi’s brother, Sang-jin, is mercilessly bullied and assaulted at school; when he finally commits suicide as a result, the event breaks Sang-mi’s family apart. Taking advantage of their fragile state the leader of the church lures her parents into the cult. Despite Sang-mi’s repeated objections that there is something wrong with the cult, her father becomes fully brainwashed. With her father in the clutches of the cult and her mother mentally unstable, Sang-mi becomes trapped and unable to escape.Three years later, Sang-mi’s previous classmates, Han Sang-hwan, the son of Muji’s governor and now a law student, his best friend Dong-chul, and their two friends, Jung-hoon and Man-hee, have a chance encounter with Sang-mi, wherein she whispers “Save me.” Sang-hwan, determined to right the wrongs of his past, becomes determined to save Sang-mi and expose the cult’s reality to the town; he is joined by Dong-chul, Jung-hoon, Man-hee in the mission, unaware that the cult is just the tip of the iceberg. This was disturbing but good !

Season two of “Forest of Secrets” will deal with the battle between prosecutors, who want to keep their investigative powers, and the police force, who want to carry out their investigations independently. Although Hwang Si Mok is technically on the side of the prosecutors, viewers are still curious to see what stance the rational Hwang Si Mok will take in the upcoming drama. Again, such a brilliant show, I hope they bring it back again.

ITV 2

Over five weeks, back to back, five night a week.  I watched series one and series two of Roswell New Mexico. After returning to her hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of undocumented immigrants discovers her teenage crush is an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life. She protects his secret as the two reconnect, but when a violent attack points to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him. This is a remake of Roswell, a show I loved over twenty years ago.
