SLOVENIA, ALPINE FAIRYTALE – LAKE BOHINIJ AND LAKE BLED

We booked a full day tour from Roundabout called the Alpine Fairytale. We were meant to be picked up at 8am from Levstikov Trg but due to a road accident that morning, we eventually got in the mini van at 9 am. We were driven first to the Alpine region below the Julian Alps where we stopped in Skofja Loka, one of the oldest Slovenian towns.
We then went to Lake Bohinj, our largest glacial lake located in the Triglav National Park. You could swim or canoe or just walk around it. This was so beautiful and peaceful. And all over Slovenia, where ever we went the water was so clear and clean and you could see straight through it.
We then stopped for lunch at Strud’l where we naturally tried the house Apple Strudel – which was delicious.
Then we visited Lake Bled, the magnificent alpine resort. We did not go to the old castle perched on top of a steep cliff above the glacial Lake Bled. My mobility issues do not work with little boats !
But walking around the lake, we did find these adorable ducklings !
We then went to Bled Castle terraces which offered a spectacular view of the lake and its tiny island in the middle. We paid 10 Euros each for 30 mins to see the view and try the famous Bled’s cream cake – which again was delicious !
And we then went to Vintgar Gorge – our highlight of the whole alpine trip – that is coming up next !
