Now I never thought that I would be talking about a service station but Gloucester Services was a really lovely place to visit. Gloucester Services is a pair of Motorway Service Areas serving the northbound and southbound carriageways of the M 5 between Junction 11 A and Junction 12, near Whaddon, Gloucester. It specialises in selling artisan food, and does not offer outlets for popular chain food brands. On a recent visit we popped in for a pit stop expecting to just to fill up with the normal rubbish you get there. But this is what we found.

It is a community at Gloucester Services they believe in the importance of reviving the traditional trades of fishmonger, butcher, greengrocer and bakery, all under one roof.  They produce food that is local, seasonal and is home-cooked. They serve lamb and beef from surrounding farms, source chicken and eggs from local producers and ensure that as far as possible dishes are influenced by seasonal produce. It is such a unique place that I wish that they were all over the place.

I am hoping to return, as the food was delicious and I will buying supplies. It is just a shame it is over the other side of the country to me !
