So another English Heritage visit, this time to Audley End in Saffron Walden. This house is found in Saffron Walden in Essex – here is all the visiting information. Billed as ‘ a mansion with a difference’  – I really enjoyed my visit here.

We started at the Servants Wing and they have been dressed as they were used in the 1880’s and even use videos impossed on walls showing how things were used in the 1880’s. We started in the Dairy and Laundry rooms and I just loved how they had presented it for people to view. It is such a clever idea that I wonder why homes just dress their formal rooms, when they could really show how these places were used in the past.

This looked so good – but you can not eat any of it ! We then moved on for a bite to eat in the Servants Kitchen now a tea room.ServantsWhere we found the servants bells just outside.

We moved into the house, again you are not allowed to take any pictures but I did get one of their own chapel. Before we got to the third floor nursery and was allowed to take pictures.

We then moved onto 1880’s staged stable yard and meet a few ducks along the way as well as a very hungry horse.

Before we ended finshing our visit finding the Pond Garden and Elysian Garden and saw this tree which on one side looked interesting with the different bark but on the other side – we have no idea if this was damage to a lightening strike, an infestation of something. We will never know.

I had such a lovely time visiting this. I am seriously thinking of joining English Heritage in the new year and see what else the UK has to offer !
