So another weekend away, this time I went to the North East to stay with my friend and her family. The last time I was here was November 2012 so I was hoping for better weather. I flew with FlyBe, and this was my first time flying with them. Will hopefully use them again to get to Devon and Cornwall. So I flew to Newcastle and was meet by my friends with a quick photo op at the Angel Of The North.

We then drove down to Durham with aims to visit the cathedral and castle. The cathedral is one of the biggest that I have ever seen and is beautiful.

The clusters were even used in the Harry Potter films. We walked out to them and I recognised them straight away.

Durham cloisters became the snow-covered quadrangle, where Harry sets the owl flying in the first film and is also the scene of Ron’s slug vomiting in the Chamber of Secrets. The cathedral chapter house is the venue for Professor McGonagall’s class teaching the young wizards to turn animals into water goblets.

This is a Lego copy of the cathedral and looked amazing.

Unfortunately the castle was closed so I only managed to get some images from the outside.

We departed and made our way back against the river walk. This was such  a beautiful spot. Pictures can not do it justice.

Later that evening we went to visit the Dunston Staithes in Gateshead. You can just image the boats and the coal being moved. Now it’s left hoping for further investment and regeneration.
