SLOVENIA, LJUBLJANA SIGHTS

We spent five nights in Ljubljana, Slovenia and these were the sights we saw. It is such a quaint, small city that I really enjoyed spending time in !

Our first morning, we did a two hour walking tour. And saw the Old Town Square and Town Hall.

The New Town Square and the university area. Did you know that all University and Master degree courses are all free in Slovenia.

We then went to Congress Square when the festival of June with lots of free concerts are currently set up. I am still suffering with my illness so I did not manage to get out during the evenings. Which was a shame, but there was nothing I could do about this.

Then on Zvezda Park. Then onto Cobblers Bridge, the Bridge Of Love with all the padlocks,

The Triple Bridge and the Cathedral of St Nicholas with a unique art outside – constant rain, even in 31 degrees and blue skies.

Then onto the famous Dragon Bridge. I loved all the dragons around the bridge.

We also spent some time in Tivoli Park.

Ljubljana is a lovely city to visit and I would recommend it to anyone. It is so easy to walk around taking in the sights.

The Castle

We spent some time at Ljubljana Castle. To me it felt more like a fort than a castle but that is just my thoughts. There is a few images that showed what we saw. We arrived via the funicular which took less than an minute. And you have an amazing view of the city.

We explored the Permanent Exhibition of Slovenian History, Penitentiary, Chapel, Viewing Tower, Museum of Puppetry.

We even found our hotel room, well my husband did.

You can take these stairs all the way to the bottom. Not likely !

We stopped for lunch and my husband wanted to try the local beer !

It was a nice experience but for me, my pain relief wears off in the afternoon. So after lunch we left and went back to our hotel to rest up.

The Hotel

Found in the old town of Ljubljana, Hotel Galleria is a lovely hotel. Set on a cobblestone street lined with bars and restaurants which we took advantage off.

My only concern was the concrete stairs with my mobility issues. I always felt that I would fall down them as I do have history doing this.

And what also did not help, our room was on the third floor. So three flights of stairs as the hotel does not have a lift. Simply furnished rooms offer free Wi-Fi and private bathrooms. We booked a standard room and had a castle views.

We had a nice stay here. And did not much spend much time here other than to sleep. I had mistakenly booked a busy time not knowing that I would be suffering with illness. Not something that I can do in the future. I would recommend Ljubljana to anyone, I had a lovely time in Slovenia and hope one day to return.

I didn’t know about that area with its own weather! I am Slovenian but I rarely go to capital when I am in Slovenia as it’s quite far from my home town. However, I think I should go more often, it’s a really beautiful city, especially by the river..
